Welcome to C & R Guide Service!

The weather has warmed considerably in the high country and the fishing and flows on the North Yuba are improving rapidly (see conditions report dated 6/21/0.
The North Yuba is flowing at 280 cfs as of 6/21/08 Most of the creeks in the area are fishable right now. The Little Truckee between Boca and Stampede Reservoirs is fishing well (see conditions report). The Lower Yuba has made a great comeback from the last two years of poor fishing and fly fishing has been good for decent sized fish (see conditions report dated 6/11/0. Bass and Bluegill fishing has been good especially in the evening. There is nothing to compare to a bass slamming a popping bug and it is a good way to spend a couple of hours after work!
We have one of the popular North Fork clinics left this year. The clinic will be held on September 27, 2008. This clinic will be hosted at the Lure Resort in Downieville and presented in conjunction with Nevada City Anglers in Nevada City. The clinic will be four hours of intensive on-stream instruction on reading water and fishing techniques (including nymphing, pocket water tactics and dry fly fishing). We will also do some stream insect sampling. Seasonal hatches and fly patterns for the North Yuba will be discussed. We will place the emphasis in September on the October Caddis emergence. Basic casting skills, waders and a 4, 5, or 6 weight rod are required. A valid California fishing license is required for each participant. The cost for the clinic is $65.00. For further information contact C & R Guide Service via e-mail or at (530) 477-0780. You can also enroll at Nevada City Anglers at (530) 478-9301.
If you are looking for fly fishing tackle in the Downieville area, stop by Sierra Hardware at 305 Main Street in Downieville. Cindy, the proprietor, carries a good assortment of flies, leaders and other assorted goodies including, Keep It Up, my favorite paste fly floatant. Check it out!
If you are looking for a place to stay in the Downieville area, give the nice folks at the Lure Resort a call at (530) 289-3465 or go to their website at www.thelureresort.com. Recently remodeled, the resort makes a great place to stay right on the river.
If your club is looking for a speaker, I am still booking dates for this year. I have two slide programs available. One program deals with information on the North Yuba River with a small section on the Lower Yuba and the other deals with the joys of small stream fishing. You can contact me about rates and dates at (530) 477-0780 or via e-mail.
If you are looking for a present for that special fly fisherman, gift certificates for guide trips are always appreciated.
